Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano prediction

Table toppers Barcelona host Rayo Vallecano on Saturday as they continue their march towards the LaLiga title. The Catalans recently reached their sixth cup final in succession with a victory over Real Madrid and are now looking to seal an ninth league title in 11 years with victory over Rayo Vallecano.

Ernesto Valverde’s side are currently seven points clear of second place Atletico Madrid and 12 points clear of old foes, Real Madrid. After a start to the season, which briefly saw Sevilla top the table after the first few game weeks, Barcelona have taken firm control of the title race and have now gone 14 games without defeat in the league. Their last loss came at home to Real Betis at the beginning of November, having won all but three games since then.

Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, are in a desperate scrap for survival and are second bottom heading into this crucial tie. The Madrid team have gone five games without a win having previously gone won four of their previous six. The poor run of the form has left them two points off safety. If the relegation Madrid side are to have any chance of winning, it is likely to come in the shape of Real Madrid loanee, Raul de Tomas. The 24-year old has scored 10 goals in the league so far, a rare feat in Rayo Vallecano’s history playing in the top flight.

Despite de Tomas form, its unlikely to stop Barcelona from recording a 10th conseuctive win against visitors. Rayo haven’t beaten Barcelona in 17 years and haven’t won at the Camp Nou in 19 years. In that time they have played nine games, scoring eight and conceding just over 50.

The visitors best hope will be a repeat of the reverse fixture where they were only denied a rare win against Barca through a late comeback. A repeat of that performance alongside demonstrating that they have learnt their lesson from that loss might be Rayo’s only hope of getting anything from this match.
